Space-themed shooter arcade game Asteroids was designed by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg and released by Atari, the player controls a spaceship in an asteroid field which is transversed by flying sauces. The objective of the game is to shoot and destroy the asteroids and sauces. while not colliding with either of them or the saucers' counter-fire. The game becomes increasingly difficult as the number of asteroids increases. This was one of the first major hits of the golden age of arcade games.
